Do children need cell phones? What is the right age for children to carry cell phones? This is a hot topic of debate and an issue of concern among many parents of school going children. Many schools in Japan have announced ban on using cell phones in schools. The reason has been the spurt in instances of using cell phones for copying during exams and various other ways in which phones are being misused by school children. Many countries in Europe have brought about legislations to ban cell phone usage in schools.

That now brings us to the question of whether US should consider banning cell phones in schools. Cell phone carriers have been trying to convince us that it helps parents to keep a tab on where their kids are, ensures safety of children, useful in case of any emergency and so on.

But the question is worth a debate again. Should children be allowed to take cell phones to school? Are cell phones genuinely used or misused by children. Early this year US was rocked by a cell phone *** scandal in Pennsylvania when pornographic videos of 2 high school girls in the US was being circulated among the school children and possibly sent to people outside the school as well.

A couple of months ago a 15-year-old girl in Newark was charged with felony for taking **** pictures of herself in her cell phone and sending it to her classmates. Now not only does the girl have to face criminal charges but her classmates who received the pictures could also be charged.

There are no two opinions on the fact that cell phones are extremely attractive tools. They have enough to keep the kids hooked to them like free mobile games, free MP3 ringtones download and various ways to make your own ringtones. While schools may or may not bring about a ban on cell phone usage by children, the onus largely lies on parents to keep a check on the way their children use their cell phones. There are various tools to track cell phone usage by children and also special cell phone service plans to monitor cell phone usage by children.
